Some useful tips for computer

Index:
  2. Home WiFi

Automatically manage paging file size for all drives

2.Setting up Home WiFi

1. Define your need

In any wireless setup, your router is the most critical component, so buy the best that your budget allows for. But before you invest in a router, you will need to do some pre-planning. For instance, decide about the functionality you want from your wireless network, whether for work or entertainment...

2. ADSL vs non-ADSL

Now, if you're going to subscribe for an internet connection from your telephone service provider like MTNL or BSNL, you will need an ADSL router. For connections where your service provider is your local cable operator, you will need a non-ADSL router.

3. Go for at least 2Mbps

But whether ADSL or non-ADSL, opt for at least a 2Mbps 'unlimited' connection, though we would recommend a 5Mbps 'unlimited' connection for smoother streaming of multimedia content. Very important: Buy a router that comes with at least one USB port. Before you purchase, check with the vendor about what this port supports.

In most cases, the USB port supports storage sharing (portable hard drives and pen drives) and sometimes even printers. Some routers even support 3G data dongles (for backup internet in case your main connection goes down), but will work with specific brands only.

4. Go for multiple antennas

Buy a router with multiple antennas. External antennas increase the overall range of your router and are ideal for environments with multiple walls or glass doors.

5. Pick an '802.11ac' router

Opt for an '802.11ac' router, which boasts of data transfer speeds that are three times faster than the older 'n' standard. The 'ac' standard uses the 5GHz frequency band, which is less crowded than the regular 2.4GHz band (even microwave ovens, cordless phones and Bluetooth devices operate in the latter).

The 'ac' standard provides better network performance and is backward compatible with the 'n' standard, so your older devices will also work without any problem. If you absolutely must settle for an 'n' standard router, ensure that it supports dual-band transmission.

6. Place it centrally in your house

After you buy a router, read the manual for details on how to set up the device, for its security features, and other extras. Also, when setting it up, place it centrally in your home. Most people tend to place routers in a corner, and this affects performance in further reaches.

7. Plan your wireless coverage

During your planning stages, consider where you will need the most wireless coverage, and place the router there. So if you want a router for entertainment, place it near your TV or by your work desk for office productivity.

Also, place it as high as possible for better signal spread and strength.

Marathi Feature Film "Court" : The Injustice of Justice

Today I watched the much acclaimed Marathi movie “Court” directed by Chaitanya Tamhane. The film is brutally hard on the existing legal system which seems resolutely passive to persons outside the charmed circle of Indian social fabric. Once an old street popular dalit social worker poet runs foul to some outdated penal code provisions, he find there is no escape.
The bitter part of the story is that all along the judge, the prosecutors and indeed partly the defense lawyer know about the mechanized grindstone in which the poet is gripped inside. But, everybody is following the rule and process of the law without having any humane feeling or spirit which could reveal more than what the blind law does not wish to see. I am surprised; nobody talks about the benefit of doubt which reigns supreme in our juris prudence.
Beyond the four wall of the court room these learned caretakers of the law behave exactly as a common person. The judge enjoys holidays in Bermuda, sing songs, advises superstitions of planetary stones encourages exploiting MBA degree most gainfully to youths and most blatantly and cruelly hits a child who dared to disturb his nap in the sun. The lady prosecutor watches a Marathi play that rebukes outsiders who have taken "our jobs and our land, and are now eyeing our daughters" that could be no less deplorable than what the old poet was indicted for. The defense lawyer could be identified as anybody similar to us. He is a rich Gujarati man with a Honda city tuned to the music of jazz and loves socializing with a good test of the spirit. He finds it easier to help poet with one lakh rupees in cash as surety against bail but would not venture much to collect video graphed material to strengthen the cause or dares the judge and the court to venture out to closely see the righteous world of the convicted poet. Surprisingly, the judge likes dictating on computer but loves to remain blindfolded to the technological advancement that could reveal the truth that the law is trying to find out since 3000 BC when the first Egyptian law was enacted.
NDTV’s review has succinctly surmised,”Court is openly contemptuous of the narrow-minded and myopic ways in which obsolescent laws are interpreted in this country, but its tone is so even and genteel that its bubbling anger does not take the shape of runaway rage. Restraint renders the blow it delivers infinitely more telling.” I am also stunned to gauge Tamhane's farsightedness. He wishes the viewers to ponder, sizzle and act in good time rather than giving a solution to the dilemma in which the law of the country is finding itself.
People would surely forget “Jolly LLB”. They would be contented with its logical conclusion. But, stories like “To Kill a Mocking Bird” where the jury having fully satisfied that the negro boy was innocent, decided to punish him to save the black society from the ire of white population of the neighborhood, are the landmarks which brought radical change in the American ethicality.
Only, if, we could inculcate Mahatma Gandhi’s Satyagraph and its feeling into the existing legal fabric. Only then, the judges and the court would vibrate with the painful truth and the agony of the innocents and would not procrastinate. I shall never forget the scene from the epic film “Gandhi” where entire court including the judge stood up when the arrested Gandhi entered the court room.
The most simple definition of the word Justice is " The Quality of being Just".

Good Morning !

Good Morning!
Advantage Whatsapp!
With the advent of WhatsApp on the cloud, there has been a spate of development in the segment of social networking. One of the best efforts in my view has been to unite the withering family relationship. Groups have been formed among friends, among relatives and sparingly among the enlightened in the area of spiritual dwelling among senior citizens and most appropriately among technocrats
In the spread of the internet cloud in which I find my place, Ajai Bhaia has started wishing “Good Morning” to everybody under his reckoning.  He says that by doing this, he is able to exchange “All is well” note in a single shot coupled with customary good wish.
Recently we were comparing notes. At one juncture, we felt that not all among us are responding as is expected. Someone takes initiative before him. Somebody responds at once. A few are late. Some more either ignore or fail to respond. A few do not wish to be educated.
If somebody does not respond, it could mean several aspects.  Internet may not be responding. He may be unwell. He may be in a remote place. He may be unhappy with himself. He may be unhappy with others. He may be ….
He concluded that the response mode of persons reveal something special about his characteristic. Yes! He could be right.
I invariably add an encouraging snap taken either few moments back or on the same day to my “Good Mornings”. Sometimes, I fail to respond if am out of the range of Wi-Fi.  A few times, I do not get the right snap to attach. I do respond but I dislike saying a wishing blandly.

Ajai Bhaia is religious in this respect unless he is handicapped by the internet availability. Of late, he has also started sharing morning pictures laced with “Good Morning”.
I am finding three others falling in line. Two of them are putting good morning quotes with a befitting poster. This is refreshing. But, our aim is to draw out people for the morning walk with a camera enabled cell or smart phone. We wish to share their enjoyment of the morning walk. What we see is the reflection of light entering into the eyes. We wish to know what your eyes have enjoyed the most while you were walking in the morning for your health.

Nature has given everything essential for free.

West Windsor Pond !

It is now 3 months. Since the day, I landed at Windsor Pond, in the course of my morning walks and evening strolls, I have covered almost every nook and corner nearby but for one big pond. This unattended pond is hidden behind a dense forest just one kilometer from my home. I found one or two ingress but they were heavily laden with dropping leaves. I did not venture for fear of some reptiles getting hurt and enraged. The Windsor Pond society encounters snakes very frequently.
Yesterday, again I was hovering around the eastern side of the pond adjoining the park. I heard voices. Suddenly, I saw two kids coming out of the trees. They had colored water guns loaded with plain water. They were showering each other. Our eyes met. They told they had filled the water from the pond. They assured me that it was quite safe to go to the pond. They took me to the bank. The pond was bigger than a football ground.

This pond is going to keep me busy for the remaining days of my stay. I have heard that this pond is the habitat of long necked ducks and is visited by migrating birds during winter.  I find the nature and the naturals more harmonious.

Mind your own Business !

It is rampant. It is contagious. Whenever, a few from the educated class gather together, the topic centers around the epidemic of corruption. If the gathering is of elite senior citizens, the conversation picks up politicians and people at high places. The tragedy is everybody takes a posture of “holier than thou”.

In the morning time, when we assemble after a brisk walk, it is soothing if the topic is nature based or spritual. Therefore, while some are very vocative, a few tend to remain silent. Naturally, nobody likes an odd man or misfit smiling over.

Today, I was dragged into conversation in spite of my non-willingness.

Everybody has a tendency to draw a halo around him when the matter is about dishonesty and corruption. We even do not comprehend the expanse of dishonesty and corruption.

I surprised everybody by telling that each of us is dishonest and corrupt. The scale and the principals of such aberrations might be different from one person to the other.

I find one gentlemen accepting that he saves a lot of time and harassment by offering traffic police some money. I myself told them that I had negotiated sleeper births with the train conductor many a times though I refrained from confessing several other procedures bulging in my memory bag.

The professor was smiling as if he had been into a noble profession having no scope for immorality. I reminded him that a few days back, he told us that he used to suggest his superior for nominating him to various places of tourist interest for attending seminars. One elderly who managed a jute mill at Kolkata never thought the inhuman manner in which the jute workers were treated just to earn more profit. Then, there was a metallurgist/scientist from ISRO who never thought that he succeeded in perfecting a composition for better performance in the area of powder metallurgy managing time from his duty hours. He later sold the technique in open market. One industrialist openly confessed that he had to keep statutory and regulatory authorities at bay and that there is but only one way for smoother sailing.

Persons who are in high places either in business or in politics had to climb numerous obstacles to reach the pinnacle. In the beginning, some had sold groceries on wheel carts, some other had functioned from railway platforms and yet some other had only lamp posts to avail light. There are those born with a golden spoon but they do not know the difference between a stale bread piece and a chocolate cake. Do we know what it is to live like beggars and eat like pigs ? If a beggar cannot resist his greed, if we succumb with all the proclaimed wisdom, how could we expect such decency from persons occupying a seat of power and money? A steam engine and a bullock cart are generation apart in terms of respective power and fuel. Besides, there is a cut throat competition at the upstairs and less room for ssurvival at the top.
The atmosphere became gloomy. There was restlessness as if I had abused them. Therefore, I asked the professor to ponder about the way we bribe our gods. We bribe our boss, teachers, parents, guardians, elders, servants, our spouse and most of all our children. We do not leave our pet animals. We bribe machines by lubricating and that is from where we hear about greasing one’s hand or lubricating the process for smooth sailing.

This imperfection is ingrained in us from our birth, or from the inception of homo-sapiens on the Earth, or is integrated in the mechanism by which this Earth evolved or…..from the imperfection raging in the universe. Talking of imperfection, the eminent scientist Stephen Hawking says – “One of the basic rules of the universe is that nothing is perfect. Perfection simply doesn't exist.....Without imperfection, neither you nor I would exist”

Neither you nor I would exist and so would be the universe and universes. This mounting imperfection would one day become unbearably critical. The corollary could be a perfect perfection. Either way, it is a win-win situation for the ultimate black hole getting its bag full to burst again and thus creating universes again.

There is but only one way out – “ Be true and honest to oneself”. One is accountable and responsible for one's own perfection.
"That person of steady intellect remains stable and passionless when desires enter in to his mind as the water of countless rivers flows into the brimmed ocean without causing it any vacillation. And this great person attains highest peace; not the one that has desires to fulfill desires."

Be Aerobic Naturally ! The Airman !!

We, senior citizens from India visiting USA on a tourist visa, have formed a walking companion group at Windsor Pond Society, 3 miles SW of Princeton Junction. Some like to walk silently, some like talking and some go beyond that indulging in hot discussions. Everybody is free to choose his liking. I like walking alone, watching birds chirping, savoring beauty bestowed by nature in the form of green grass, colorful flowers, leaves of varying shapes and sizes, and plants of various denominations. Some take a 30 minute walk of 2 miles some more energetic go for one hour walk. Finally, we gather together at a centrally located park to compare notes.
Today, I was identified by at least two groups to be avoiding them and opting to walk alone. Therefore, the subject of discussion pounced upon my temperament.  Among intellects, one has to be technically sound in explaining to their satisfaction. I tried my best.
While walking, we indulge in aerobic respiration. This is better accomplished during morning time. We inhale oxygen rich air. It reacts with body glucose and releases carbon-dioxide, water and some energy. This energy is either spent during brisk walking but mostly retained for future use. This process takes place anaerobically also but glucose breaks down lesser and there are good chances of toxins getting accumulated in the body.  If one indulges in talking, getting excited and losing temper, the energy gets wasted unnecessarily.  This breaking of glucose is beneficial for diabetic patient. Sweating disposes toxins from the body. Therefore, walking here itself presents three most beneficial properties.
I explained to them the way the plants and animals take advantage of aerobic and non-aerobic respiration. Oxygen enters plant cells through the stomata. Plants produce their food via photosynthesis and release energy from it through the process of respiration.
The anaerobic respiration inhibits glucose breakdown and produces lactic acid instead. In human, this results in cramping of muscles. This known as Oxygen debt can be compensated by obtaining Oxygen from elsewhere e.g., fresh air or oxygen mask. In plants, anaerobic situation arises when there is water logging in the soil. This results in fermentation.
We find elephants, pythons and turtles having a long life. Their breathing is deaper and longer. Those majestic trees in a silent forest live far longer. The more you are conserving energy and utilizing for beneficial purpose, the more you are healthy and live longer.

While returning, we watched people taking walk silently. They looked more cheerful and healthy. Among us , the silent one was more healthier and aged than us.
We passed via a large pond with two high rise fountains. These fountains were making the pond ambiance far more beautiful. But, they were serving more pragmatically. They were helping the water with aerobic purification. The downpour of falling showers was absorbing oxygen to their heart fill and getting dissolved and un-dissolved waste scraped or chemically neutralized.
I summed up, the next day by quoting from an available text in the internet, which was as under:
Respiration is the process of releasing energy from the breakdown of glucose. Respiration takes place in every living cell; all of the time and all cells need to respire in order to produce the energy that they require. The energy produced during respiration is used in many different ways, some examples of what it is used for are:
  • Working your muscles
  • Growth and repair of cells
  • Building larger molecules from smaller ones i.e. proteins from amino acids
  • Allowing chemical reactions to take place
  • Absorbing molecules in active transport
  • Keeping your body temperature constant
  • Sending messages along nerves

Faith !

Today I had a discussion with my son-in-law. The subject matter was a story made viral. The summary of the story was that one woman in a lonely desolate cottage lived with her cancer stricken baby. Bereft financially, she was praying all the time that one Dr. Mark, a known specialist, could visit her cottage and cure the child. The doctor came one day. His flight had been cancelled. He hired a personally driven cab to take a 4 hour journey to his destination. There was storm. He lost his way. Finally, he found refuge in the same cottage. He heard the entire story. He became a believer.

I searched the internet to know about the doctor so that I could connect the story much better. To my amazement, I found the same story verbatim with the name of the doctor changed in a number of websites. In all the instances, it was to foster a particular religion or a cult. This looked like plagiarism to befool innocent people. My son-in-law took it otherwise. He said that this was to inculcate faith upon the Almighty and His ways. This drives the people to go ahead with optimism in life.

I pondered in the quietness of the dawning morning.

Integrated with scientific temper, my methods are microscopic. I use to weigh and measure what comes in my way.The science of measurement finds the truth. However, microscope has limitations of its platform.

His approach is macroscopic as he looks beyond what comes in his way.Macroscopic ways has an infinite scope. He relied heavily on faith. Faith is beyond measurement. Faith begins with the Creator and end unto the Creator.
Can we ever find out the truth? We are but tiny particles on a tiny planet revolving around the Sun. The Sun is a star. There are billions of stars in a galaxy. There are billions of galaxies in the universe. There are billions of universes. We have still to discover innumerable truths about our tiny planet what to say about stars, galaxies and the universes. The outreach of the latest Hubble Space Station has only been able to determine the rate of expansion of our tiny universe. Until then, have faith while there is life!

All truths are easy to understand once they are discovered; the point is to discover them (Galileo Galilei). Faith is taking the first step even when you don't see the whole staircase (Martin Luther King, Jr).

Say not the Struggle Naught availeth

Arthur Hugh Clough. 1819–1861

SAY not the struggle naught availeth,
The labour and the wounds are vain,
The enemy faints not, nor faileth,
And as things have been they remain.

If hopes were dupes, fears may be liars;
It may be, in yon smoke conceal'd,
Your comrades chase e'en now the fliers,
And, but for you, possess the field.

For while the tired waves, vainly breaking,
Seem here no painful inch to gain,
Far back, through creeks and inlets making,
Comes silent, flooding in, the main.

And not by eastern windows only,
  When daylight comes, comes in the light;
In front the sun climbs slow, how slowly!
But westward, look, the land is bright!

A Psalm of Life

Tell me not, in mournful numbers,
Life is but an empty dream!—
For the soul is dead that slumbers,
And things are not what they seem.

Life is real! Life is earnest!
     And the grave is not its goal;
Dust thou art, to dust returnest,
Was not spoken of the soul.

Not enjoyment, and not sorrow,
     Is our destined end or way;
But to act, that each to-morrow
     Find us farther than to-day.

Art is long, and Time is fleeting,
And our hearts, though stout and brave,
Still, like muffled drums, are beating
     Funeral marches to the grave.

In the world's broad field of battle,
     In the bivouac of Life,
Be not like dumb, driven cattle!
Be a hero in the strife!

Trust no Future, howe'er pleasant!
Let the dead Past bury its dead!
Act,—act in the living Present!
     Heart within, and God o'erhead!

Lives of great men all remind us
We can make our lives sublime,
And, departing, leave behind us
     Footprints on the sands of time;

Footprints, that perhaps another,
     Sailing o'er life's solemn main,
A forlorn and shipwrecked brother,
     Seeing, shall take heart again.

Let us, then, be up and doing,
     With a heart for any fate;
Still achieving, still pursuing,
Learn to labor and to wait.
- Henry Wadsworth Longfellow-
